Where is AMAC based?
Our head office is in Toronto, Ontario. Activities take place in the Greater Toronto Area and online.
Membership
Who can become a member?
Any adult from the Medu-Ndah-Ndah region (by descent, parents or grandparents) or married/in a union with someone from it. Others who share our values can become supporting members.
How do I join?
Send a signed application to the Secretary General, get two regular members to sponsor you, attend general assemblies, then have an interview with the Executive Committee. See Become a member.
How much does membership cost?
There is a one-time joining fee and an annual fee, set each year by the general assembly. Contact us for current amounts. The joining fee is refunded if the application is not accepted.
Is there a waiting period?
Yes: new members are on probation for 4 to 6 months, and a 2-year waiting period after becoming a regular (active) member applies before receiving financial assistance from the association.
Is my personal information protected?
Yes. The membership list and your information are strictly confidential and never shared with third parties without your consent.
Association life
When are the general assemblies?
Every 3rd Saturday, 5–8 pm, online or in person. In July the GA is held outdoors; there is none in August; in December the children’s party replaces it.
Can I attend a GA without being a member?
Yes, if you are interested in joining: you may attend as an observer. Contact the Secretary General.
Are language classes free?
Yes. They take place every Saturday, 1–2 pm, online, for children and adults.
How are leaders elected?
The 11 Executive Committee members are elected by secret ballot for 2 years, renewable once in the same role. The Council of Elders runs the elections.
RPN
What is RPN?
The Retour au Pays Natal network ensures the dignified repatriation of the deceased and supports families, thanks to contributions from tens of thousands of members.
Is RPN mandatory?
Yes for regular members, unless they show proof of equivalent insurance. Registration is done through AMAC.
How do RPN contributions work?
When a call is made, each member sends their share to AMAC’s treasurer within 72 hours and keeps a sufficient balance. Details: RPN page.
